The Curriculum

Each Certified Functional Nutritionist ( CFN) module builds on the next, creating an integrative framework that delivers a thorough foundations in functional nutrition. The self-paced CFN program is comprised of 200+ lectures, totaling 37 hours and taught by a team of practicing clinicians, and estimated to take 3 to 9 months to complete.

Certified Functional Nutritionist Program 

Completing eight modules is necessary to become a Certified Functional Nutritionist.

Module 1

Micronutrients: The Building Blocks Health

Master therapeutic dosages of every vitamin and mineral relevant to modern clinical practice—beyond basic RDAs to clinical applications.

Module 2

Specialized Nutrients: Targeted Support

Essential fatty acids, botanicals, probiotics, digestive enzymes, and antioxidants. Learn to evaluate any nutraceutical formula for clinical effectiveness.

Module 3

Dietary Principles: A Functional  Framework

Carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and water—the foundation for understanding specialized therapeutic diets.

Module 4

Therapeutic Diets: Clinical Applications

Master all major therapeutic diets—ketogenic, Mediterranean, autoimmune, low-FODMAP—and learn when each is clinically appropriate for specific conditions.

Module 5

Time-Restricted Feeding and Fasting

Learn time-restricted feeding and fasting protocols for weight loss, gut health, immune support, and inflammation reduction in clinical practice.

Module 6

Lifestyle Medicine: Essential Factors 

Master essential lifestyle medicine principles—sleep, exercise, stress management, and social health—and learn how to implement them effectively in clinical practice.

Module 7

Healthy and Practical Cooking Principles

Learn healthy cooking techniques that preserve nutrients, meal planning strategies, and practical ways to help clients make sustainable food choices.

Module 8

Clinical Applications: Nutritional Strategies

Apply nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement strategies to the 40 most common health conditions—your foundation for advanced functional medicine practice.

Your certification isn’t just a one-time achievement—it’s a professional community and resource you can rely on year after year. To maintain an active status, you must complete 12 hours of continuing education annually and pay a $399 Annual Maintenance Membership, which includes:
